We all know how important it is to do physical exercise to keep ourselves in good health, and if we can find ways of doing it without it costing any money, even better. From the Concejalía de Servicios Sociales let us remind you that we have in the village areas with apparatus designed to help us meet the basic requirements to keep ourselves in shape. In addition, we are one of the villages of the Marina Alta with the most green areas, we have to appreciate them and improve not only our physical health, but also our mental and emotional state.

The Ministerio de Sanidad, Servicios Sociales e Igualdad recommends the following number of minutes of physical exercise for the different population groups:

Under 5s:

  • 180 minutes a day, activities and games which develop the children’s skills (running, jumping, throwing, swimming) in different environments (at home, in the park etc.)

From 5 a 17:

  • Include at least 3 times a week activities of vigorous intensity and activities which strengthen the muscles and improve bone mass.

Adults:

  • At least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, for example walking at a moderate pace (20 minutes a day), or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week, or a combination of the two, such as walking at a vigorous pace.

  • At least twice a week do activities to strengthen your muscles and improve your bone mass and activities to improve your flexibility.

Over 65s, especially those who have mobility problems:

  • At least 3 times a week to activities to strengthen your muscles and improve your balance.

In addition, for those of you who control how many steps you do each day, the advice is to do at least 6,000 steps to improve your health and 10,000 if you want to lose weight.

At the moment, the Regidoria de Serveis Socials is working to design walking routes to make physical activity in the village and thereabouts easier and to help people to explore the village.
